Hello, World!
Today, I stumbled upon Cloudflare Pages about 5 years late.
My mind instantly jumped to “Ooo, free Jamstack blog hosting?!?”. Which is… interesting. Mostly because I’m late enough to the party that the machines have already taken over. But, with a couple of hours to spare and 20 minutes on the ol’ research throne, I landed on using Hugo. Initially, I was going to find something obscure in a LISP or build my own. But then I realized that if I went down that hole I would never actually ship anything and simply spend my time tinkering on a static site generator in Ook!.
Not this time! This time I made a decision and only wasted half an hour going through demos on Hugo Themes before picking one and getting started. While CMS is something I’m very familiar with, Jamstack was new to me. Thankfully, it was as simple as following the excellent Cloudflare and Hugo documentation and tacking on the Maverick theme I chose off-the-shelf.
For my first post, I’m not going to dive into how I got up and running. Not my toml files. Not my editor setup. No! What I want is to highlight something more precious. To me, this blog and first post is about iterative self-improvement. About self-reflecting and avoiding my typical patterns. About conceptualizing and completing something. About the practical outcome of creating a space to practice and improve my writing. And that, to me, is something special.
I’ll end my first post with a simple definition:
- Hello, World!
- ⤷ The output of finally getting started.
Although if we’re going for accuracy about the likely place this blog will go…
- Hello, World!
- ⤷ The beginning of a trite, self-involved blog by a software engineer. How novel!
